Celebrating Jacob: A Year (or Two!) of Dedication, Growth and Laughter at Headway Kent

We’re saying a huge thank you to Jacob, who recently completed two incredible back-to-back placements with us through East Kent College. From day one, Jacob brought energy, kindness and an eagerness to learn—and he leaves us having made a real and lasting impact.

Jacob first chose Headway Kent after seeing the effects of stroke in his own family. He wanted a placement that made a difference—and he certainly found it. Over time, Jacob grew from a quiet newcomer to an invaluable member of our team. His confidence soared, his tea-making became legendary, and his belief in the resilience of people with brain injuries deepened daily.

His favourite memory? Losing badly at Uno after bragging about his card skills—an event that earned him some well-deserved teasing from our members ever since! And his proudest achievement? Spearheading the laptop project, breathing new life into our old tech so that members could use adapted software more easily—an act that continues to support access and inclusion.

As Jacob put it, “Disability doesn’t define you.” We couldn’t agree more. He’s off to study Biology at university next, but we’ve been assured this won’t be the last we see of him.

Jacob summed up his Headway experience in three words: Welcoming. Educational. Jolly. We think that says it all.
