Today saw Kent hit a sweltering 33.6°C – the hottest day of the year so far. While many are feeling the heat, we’re especially mindful of the impact high temperatures can have on people living with an acquired brain injury (ABI). One lesser-known effect of brain injury is difficulty regulating body temperature, which can make extreme weather not just uncomfortable, but dangerous.
At Headway Kent, we’ve taken action. Our Canterbury Hub – once notorious for being our hottest site due to its old portacabin setting – is now fully equipped with air conditioning and a steady supply of cold drinks.
In previous years, we’ve had no choice but to close the hub on extremely hot days to protect the health and wellbeing of our members and staff. But this year, we’re delighted to say: not anymore.
Thanks to generous donations and support, the Canterbury Hub remains open, welcoming, and – most importantly – cool. So don’t let the heat keep you away; we’re ready for you with a chilled space, friendly faces, and a whole lot of care.
