Headway Kent Launches New Therapeutic Allotment in Barham – With Special Thanks to The Fifth Trust

Date: 25th June 2025

We are thrilled to intoduce our brand-new, very large, community allotment in the heart of Barham!

This green space (and it is just green with weed at the mo!) marks the beginning of a new chapter in our therapeutic wellbeing rehabilitation recovery work at Headway Kent. Designed specifically with accessibility in mind, the allotment will offer people living with brain injuries and disabilities a peaceful place to grow, connect, and recover.

The project has been made possible thanks to the generous support and partnership of The Fifth Trust, whose kindness and community spirit have provided us with this beautiful site.

From seed to harvest, the Grow Well with Headway project will provide hands-on horticultural activities tailored to each individual’s needs. We believe that nature offers powerful opportunities for healing, and this space will allow brain injury survivors to benefit from gentle physical activity, fresh air, routine, and social interaction – all of which are vital for wellbeing.

But we need your help to get growing!

We are currently seeking donations of any unwanted or preloved gardening tools and equipment. Whether it’s trowels, gloves, watering cans, kneeling pads, pots, compost bags, or even old wheelbarrows – your shed clear-out could help change lives.

If you or someone you know has items to spare, please get in touch via info@headwaykent.org or call 01227 864118 or drop them to our Ashford, Thanet, Folkestone or Canterbury hubs.

Together, with your support, we can nurture something truly special – a safe, inclusive space where people can grow vegetables, confidence, and friendships side by side.
